Human Resources Overview - Arts and Sciences

Human Resources at Ohio State is comprised of professionals across the university and medical center who support current and prospective faculty, staff, and students in the areas of benefits, compensation, employee and labor relations, and integrated talent management, as well as college/unit strategic HR initiatives and services.

HRBP

  • Serves as strategic HR partner for ASC leaders.
  • Leads the team that delivers HR services to ASC faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develops and implements college-wide HR initiatives and services (e.g. Annual

Merit Compensation Process (AMCP), faculty HR processes, staff performance management, staff equity adjustments, HR compliance/risk management).

HRC (HR Support for Faculty and Staff)

  • Primary contact for many HR issues including developing position descriptions; compensation reviews; coordinating new and continuing appointments of associated faculty/Lecturers; flexible work arrangements; out of state work requests; HR policy questions; visa coordination; reviews and approves HR transactions in Workday.
  • Support for managers and manager liaisons initiating actions in Workday.

HR Specialist (HR Support for Student Employees)

  • Primary contact for HR support throughout the lifecycle of a student employee including hiring student assistants/GAs; processing period activity pay; compensation and job updates; managing end dates of appointments.
  • Provides HR consultation for non-employees (e.g. visiting fellows, trainees).
  • Support for managers and manager liaisons initiating actions in Workday.

The Employee and Labor Relations (ELR) team serves as a partner for performance issues, conflicts and other issues that arise in the workplace. ELR conducts investigations, helps problem solve, provides advice, and interprets policies, procedures, labor contracts and key federal and state regulations.

Facilitates recruitment and hiring by placing ads, supporting job posting process in Workday, screening applications, advising on recruitment practices, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and laws, collecting disposition sheets, and managing offer processes.

HR Connection, Ohio State’s shared services operation, is a resource for employees across the organization and is often the first point of contact that connects someone to HR.

  • HR Case/Ticket Generation via Service Now through HR Connection website https://hrconnection.osu.edu/, email to HR@osu.edu, and HR Consultants can create tickets on behalf of employees. Tickets are routed to the appropriate office (e.g.Benefits, Payroll, Integrated Absence Management) or assigned to the unit HR Consultant/Specialist for response.
